Back in my upholstery apprenticeship days, I wanted to design a bed dedicated to him!! I wanted a waveless waterbed w a built in stereo that only played Barry White. I was gonna cover it in fake fur and top the bed w satin sheets. It was hard to find a waterbed after 1990.

What an experience! To be in the presence of such greatness 🤩! I would have peed my pants, had a heart attack, barfed or simultaneously done all three. At the least my nerves would have been shot..... Loved the piece, Dave! ❤️ Keep them coming!

Ahhhh! This: “Sometimes when something seems too good to be true, I just want it to be over so I can breathe again.” YES. So perfect! Once I went back stage with a writer pal after a great Alison Krauss/Robert Plant show. Robert Plant sidled over and chatted us up in the loveliest way. (T Bone Burnett strutted about like an elegant egret.) I said, “glerp!” and chugged a glass of wine. Once we escaped to the parking lot, I was so flustered I couldn’t find the car, then couldn’t drive.

Thank you, Lolly! I'm jealous you got to meet Robert Plant. I've heard he's delightful!

Thank-you for this story!! He defined a whole genera of mid century boudoir groove. ❤️ And Glodean (James), an amazing entertainer in her own right, the female singers of the era put a sexy point on it. The females of that era, like Glodean’s “Love Unlimited” trio, “Jackson Sisters”, “The Three Degrees”, etc., they were under-appreciated for the doors they opened. Disco stars like Donna Summers have them to thank. (Fast forward to todays Beyoncé , Lizzo wonderfulness) Barry was at the core of that, showing respect for female artists. I sure miss him. Keep the wah wah in your heart, Dave.

PS, I will always remember “Camping With Barry White” as a favorite on the classic Letterman show years.
