I try to reserve my Substack strictly for various ramblings, inanities, and half-baked manifestos, but some days I just want to tell you about some super sick stuff I’m getting up to. Today is one of those days. And with that, I am excited to announce that the first issue of my debut comic book series Dark Regards will be released by Oni Press, a totally reputable comic book concern also known for bringing you such titles as Scott Pilgrim, Rick and Morty, Gender Queer and much more, this May 14. You can pre-order Dark Regards here or ask your local comic book shop to reserve you a copy.
Dark Regards is created and written by me, Dave, and is inspired by my actual email exchanges with a Norwegian black metal record label some years back in which I pretended to be a teenager named Lance who had an extremely extreme black metal band called Witch Taint while also working at Subway and living with his mother. You can read the email exchanges in their original and unedited entirety here. The amazing art in Dark Regards is by Artyom Topilin, who is an absolute force in my expert opinion.
There are all sorts of limited-edition cover various as part of the Dark Regards comic book series, including a cover drawn by me (above) that includes the blood of me, my editor Karl Bollers, and publisher Hunter Gorinson in the ink. If you are disturbed by this, imagine how I feel.
Anyway, I’m really excited about it and I think you’re really going to enjoy Dark Regards whether you are a comic book fan or not. Now I’m just trying to decide if I should show this to my dad or not.
Your man,
Dave Hill
Witch’s Taint and Summer’s Eve. Well done, sir.
I preordered a bunch, just for fun. The cover variants are freaking awesome!
